False Teachers

Teaching the Dhamma is a vexation.

So clear.

The one who teaches the Dhamma is because he has discovered it, because he possesses it, rather he possesses it. And teaching reality is so obvious that it borders on ridicule. Also, if you show it to someone who denies the evidence, it is a useless effort … and it is humiliating because it also does not bring any benefit, or anything good.

Compassion is submitting to this vexation for someone to wake up, considering that the only beneficiary in that awakening is that someone. Like the lifeguard who is busy saving someone who is drowning while he is hitting him.

«Then, I considered this: ‘This Dhamma attained by me is profound, difficult to see, difficult to understand, peaceful, sublime, which transcends the dialectic, subtle, intelligible to learn. However, this generation delights in sensual pleasures, is accustomed to delight in sensual pleasures and rejoices in sensual pleasures. And for a generation that revels in sensual pleasures, that is accustomed to indulging in sensual pleasures and rejoices in sensual pleasures, it would be a very difficult matter to see the truth, that is, conditionality and dependent arising. It would also be a very difficult matter to see, to calm the mental formations, to renounce all attachments, to destroy greed, to achieve dispassion, the cessation, Nibbana. So, if I taught this Dhamma to others and they did not understand me, this could become a fatigue for me, it could become a vexation for me. ‘ And later, these verses arose from me, never before heard in the past:

This I have won through great fatigue.

Enough! Why should I make it known?

For people consumed by greed and hatred,

This Dhamma is incomprehensible.

Going against the current,

subtle, deep, difficult to see and delicate,

hidden behind the slavery of the passions:

[invisible to those who] are overshadowed by the darkness of ignorance.

«Considering this, my mind was more inclined towards inactivity and not toward the teaching of Dhamma.

We must observe that only teaches who knows. False teachers are those who teach what they do not know, do not understand or dominate.

The Dhamma escapes from the concepts: it is beyond.

The teaching of Dhamma is to show the way the disciple can contemplate it, because telling it does not work.

When we see ordinary people giving lectures, classes, talks, Dhamma courses they are trying to transport water with strainers. As the reality, which is what Dhamma is about, is beyond any concept, using concepts is incoherent, useless and funny. And they do it because, although they do not know it, they trust that superior ignorance of their devotees. For them, teaching the Dhamma is not a humiliation, it is mere business, way of life, hobby or social posturing.

It is taught so that someone learns. If nobody learns you can not talk about teaching. As we have already reiterated on several occasions the only goal of Buddhism is the complete enlightenment that implies the definitive eradication of existence, the rest is shit.

AN 1. 316-332. Third subchapter

«Monks, here is a particular person who arises in the world to the detriment of many people, to the unhappiness of many people, to the ruin, harm and suffering of many people, devas and human beings. And, who is that person? It is one that holds the wrong point of view and has a wrong perspective. He diverts many people out of good Dhamma and establishes them in a bad Dhamma. That is that particular person that arises in the world for the detriment of many people, for the unhappiness of many people, for the ruin, harm and suffering of many people, devas and human beings.

«Monks, here is a particular person who emerges in the world for the welfare of many people, for the happiness of many people, for the good, welfare and happiness of many people, devas and human beings. And, who is that person? It is one that maintains the correct point of view and has a correct perspective. He brings many people out of evil Dhamma and establishes them in a good Dhamma. That is that particular person that emerges in the world for the welfare of many people, for the happiness of many people, for the good, well-being and happiness of many people, devas and human beings.

«Monks, I do not see any other particular thing that is as reprehensible as the wrong point of view. The wrong point of view is the worst thing among all the objectionable ones.

«Monks, I do not see another particular person who acts so much for the detriment of many people, for the unhappiness of many people, for the ruin, harm and suffering of many people, devas and human beings, that the hollow man Makkhali. Just as a trap at the mouth of a river only brings harm, suffering, calamity and disaster for many fish, so also the hollow man Makkhali is a real «trap of the people», which arose in the world for prejudice, suffering, calamity and disaster for many beings.

«Monks, someone who encourages others in Dhamma and poorly exposed Discipline, and he who is encouraged like that, and who, encouraged like that, practices according to that, all generate a great demerit. And, why so? Because that Dhamma is badly exposed.

«Monks, someone who encourages others in Dhamma and well-exposed Discipline, and he who is encouraged like that, and who, encouraged as he is, practices according to that, all generate great merit. And, why so? Because that Dhamma is well exposed.

«Monks, with the Dhamma and Discipline badly exposed, moderation must be known by the giver, and not by the one who receives. And, why so? Because that Dhamma is badly exposed.

«Monks, with the Dhamma and Discipline well exposed, moderation must be known by the one who receives, and not by the giver. And, why so? Because that Dhamma is well exposed.

«Monks, who brings forth the energy in Dhamma and badly exposed Discipline dwells in suffering. And, why so? Because that Dhamma is badly exposed.

«Monks, who is lazy in Dhamma and well-exposed Discipline dwells in suffering. And, why so? Because that Dhamma is well exposed.

«Monks, who is lazy in Dhamma and badly exposed Discipline dwells in happiness. And, why so? Because that Dhamma is badly exposed.

«Monks, who brings forth energy in Dhamma and well-exposed Discipline dwells in happiness. And, why so? Because that Dhamma is well exposed.

«Monks, as well as even a negligible amount of excrement stinks, so I do not praise even a negligible amount of existence, even for a fraction of a second.

«Monks, as well as even a negligible amount of urine stinks … an insignificant amount of saliva stinks … an insignificant amount of pus smells bad … an insignificant amount of blood smells bad, so I do not praise even an insignificant amount of existence, even for a fraction of a second. «

False teachers are real «people traps» and bring great demerit.

But where do we find false teachers?

If there is something that proliferates in the world of Buddhism as mushrooms after spring rain are these false «teachers». So much so that even some sects boast of treasuring long lines of teacher lineages, that is, certified lines of individuals that attracted to themselves and their disciples a huge demerit.

How big is that demerit?

It supposes, nothing less, that one of the six bad acts, the maximum evil that an individual can commit, together with killing his mother, killing his father, murdering an arahant, spilling with hatred in the mind the blood of a Buddha, create a schism in the Sangha or declare to have a teacher who is not a Buddha.

These six bad acts are impossible for an arahant to commit. That is, it is not possible for an arahant to have a teacher who is not a Buddha.

This condemns the hell of the red lotus, the lowest of all, to this revelry of false teachers with their false disciples. Those same ones that assure that the arahantado can be reached just by practicing vipassana in the hands of a certified «teacher».

Not only that.

As the merit of the actions depends on the recipient of the action, it is a huge demerit to keep those false teachers, some of them false monks who live on the charity of devotees who do not know that their action is leading them to perdition.

And the ignorance of conditionality does not prevent its action.

268-277. First Subchapter

«This is impossible and inconceivable, monks, that the person consummated in the vision, consider any conditional phenomenon as permanent; There is no such possibility. But this is possible, monks, for a mundane person to consider some conditional phenomenon as permanent; behold, there is such a possibility.

«This is impossible and inconceivable, monks, that the person consummated in the vision, consider any conditional phenomenon as pleasurable; There is no such possibility. But this is possible, monks, for a worldly person to consider some phenomenon conditional as pleasant;behold, there is such a possibility.

«This is impossible and inconceivable, monks, that the person consummated in the vision, consider any conditional phenomenon as being; There is no such possibility. But this is possible, monks, for a mundane person to consider some conditional phenomenon as being;behold, there is such a possibility.

[271-276] {271-276} «This is impossible and inconceivable, monks, that the person consummated in the vision, deprive his mother of life … (272) … deprive his father of life … (273) … deprive himself an arahant of life … (274) … with hatred in mind, spilling the blood of the Tathagata … (275) … creating a schism in the Sangha … (276) … recognizing someone else [apart from the Buddha] as a teacher; There is no such possibility. But this is possible, monks, for a worldly person to recognize someone else [other than the Buddha] as a teacher;behold, there is such a possibility.

«This is impossible and inconceivable, monks, that two arahants who are perfectly enlightened buddhas, arise simultaneously in the world system; There is no such possibility. But this is possible, monks, that an arahant who is a perfectly enlightened Buddha emerges in the world system; behold, there is such a possibility. «

The false teachers are like mines.
